The Apriori Institute is an association, a legal entity under private law, not for profit, with administrative and financial autonomy, with registered office and jurisdiction at Avenida Maria Coelho Aguiar, 215, Block F, 6th floor, Jardim São Luís, São Paulo/SP, Brazil, constituted under articles 53 to 61 of Law No. 10,406/2002 (Brazilian Civil Code).
The Apriori Institute is a private Science, Technology and Innovation Institution (ICT) whose purpose is to foster scientific and technological practice directed at scientific development, research, scientific and technological training and innovation, engaging the agents of the Brazilian National System of Science, Technology and Innovation (SNCTI), in support of sustainable economic and social development at local, regional and national level, under the Brazilian Federal Constitution of 1988 and the legislation in force on Science, Technology and Innovation, in particular Law No. 10,973/2004 and Law No. 13,243/2016.
The Institute’s objectives are: to develop advanced solutions in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering and related fields; to structure and carry out RD&I and ST&I projects in collaboration with companies and research centres; to transfer technology and foster the creation of new technology-based businesses; to promote technological training programmes; to act as an international connection hub, particularly in triple-helix partnerships; and to support the creation and acceleration of technology startups under the law.
Artificial Intelligence; Data Science; Systems Architecture; Automation and Process Engineering; Cybersecurity; Education and scientific and technological training; Operations Research; and areas of strategic interest to the Institute.
Studies and execution of ST&I and RD&I projects; technology licensing and transfer; educational programmes and training; startup incubation and acceleration; organisation of events; fundraising; publication of knowledge; market studies; and ST&I partnerships under the law.
The Institute may enter into ST&I partnerships with other public or private ICTs; institutions, organisations and companies or startups, national and international; public bodies and entities; funding agencies; and independent researchers or inventors.
All resources, revenues and assets of the Institute shall be applied in full to the maintenance and development of its institutional objectives.
The distribution of profits, dividends or bonuses, directly or indirectly, to directors, members or sponsors is expressly prohibited.
Any financial surplus at the end of each financial year shall be allocated in full to reinvestment in the association’s projects, programmes, improvements and expansion.
The Institute shall establish its own innovation policy, aligned with Brazilian national innovation policy, including the management of intellectual property generated in its activities — patents, software, algorithms, know-how and trade secrets.
In projects carried out in partnership with companies, universities or other ICTs, ownership shall be shared or defined by contract. The share of royalties belonging to the Institute is reinvested in full in its social objectives, and technology transfer or licensing takes place only under a formal contract approved by the Executive Board.
